52. Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933)
Tiffany was an American artist, painter, decorator and is widely known as a glass designer. Inspired by William Morris - and his Arts and Crafts movement, and Émile Gallé, Tiffany designed stained glass windows (vitreaux) and lamps with glass shades in the spirit of Art Nouveau. He invented a method for producing opalescent coloured glass in a big variety of colours and hues - traditional glass makers and stained glass
artists rejected this method because they believed that the correct way to colour glass is by the transparent enamels. The type of glass that Tiffany invented is called "Favrile".
